There are many useful tools and steps you can take to help diagnose problems before
contacting your TeamForge
Lab Management support team.
Troubleshooting a slow system requires expert knowledge. To begin, try these measures:
- On Windows systems, press Ctrl+Alt+Delete and select the Task Manager button to bring
up the Windows Task Manager. This utility will tell you all the processes running on your
machine and give you an idea of which processes are using the most resources. If you see a
process that is using more than its share of resources, you can use Task Manager to kill the
process.
- On Linux systems, use the top utility to list the processes on your system
that are using the most resources. If you see a process that is using more than its share of
resources, you can use top to kill the process, or you can kill it manually
using the kill command.
- If this machine is a Virtual Guest, were any new Virtual Guests recently added to this
machine's Virtual Host? If so, that machine may be running system-intensive processes that are
destabilizing your system.
- If this machine is a Virtual Guest, also check the system status graphs for the corresponding
Virtual Host. There may be another Virtual Guest on this same Virtual Host that is using more
than its share of resources.
