This section describes the Lab Management components that constitute a Lab Management deployment.
The Lab Management components include:
Lab Management Manager
The main
Lab Management Infrastructure node that performs many
important functions:
- Builds and provisions Client and Infrastructure nodes.
- Collects usage data about each Client node.
- Runs the Lab Management Web Console that users employ to access the
Client nodes.
- Records all user logins to Client nodes.
- Allocates resources (such as profiles or hosts) for projects.
- Controls user access to Client nodes.
There is one Lab Management Manager per Lab Management deployment.
Primary Active Directory Server
An Infrastructure node functioning as a
Microsoft Active Directory Domain Controller to provide authentication for
Lab Management users
and a record of users who are allowed to log in to specific machines. Your organization
might already have an existing Active Directory infrastructure. However, you cannot use
an existing Active Directory Domain or an Active Directory Domain Controller for the
Lab Management Primary or Secondary Active Directory Infrastructure node.
Lab Management requires
its own Active Directory Domain and Domain Controller.
You can integrate your existing Active Directory users and passwords into Lab Management. For more information
about this procedure, see Install the Lab Management Domain
DNS Subdomain for Lab Management
A dedicated DNS subdomain that is reserved for
the Lab Management Domain such as Lab Management.example.com .
Secondary Active Directory Server
(Optional)
An Infrastructure node functioning as a Microsoft Active Directory
Domain Controller to provide redundancy for the Primary Active Directory
Server.
Solaris SPARC Bootserver
(Optional)
An Infrastructure node that supports SPARC-based Solaris machines. If
your
Lab Management domain does not include any SPARC-based machines running Solaris, you do
not need this Infrastructure node. However, if you do have them, then you need a
Solaris SPARC Bootsever.
