Client nodes are virtual or physical servers that Lab Management manages. Client nodes are
also referred to as hosts in this document and in the Lab Management Manager software.
Lab Management distinguishes between the virtual and the physical in these instances:
- Virtual machines can be migrated from one physical machine to another through the
Lab Management Web Console. In contrast, physical machines cannot be migrated.
- Physical machines can host virtual machines. In contrast, virtual machines cannot
host other virtual machines.
Client nodes are set up for users to do their development work. Users can access Lab Management
nodes in three ways:
- Authorized users can perform administrative tasks on Client nodes through the Lab Management
Web Console such as rebooting and installing system profiles
- Authorized users can log in to Client nodes with shell accounts
- Any user can access a service (for example, a Web server or an application server)
running on a Client node depending on how the owner of the host has configured
it
Client nodes have per-project access controls on them that permit only members of the
project to log into them and set more detailed access control permissions.
