Before you can add a new server into the Lab Management Domain, you must upgrade the Openboot PROM (OBP) and the ALOM firmware to the latest available versions from Sun Microsystems.
The reason for this step is that some command outputs of older OBP versions are slightly different than those from the latest OBP version that Lab Management has tested.
You can download these patches from Sun's support site at http://sunsolve.sun.com.
Each patch comes with its own README file that includes the instructions for applying the patch:
- For V210/240, patch 121683-04 for OBP (version 4.22.23, released on Dec 7, 2006) and ALOM_1.6.1
- For 280R/480R, patch 118323-01 for OBP (version 4.16.4, released on Jan 10, 2005) and RSC-2.2.3 (for Solaris 8, 9, 10)
- For T2000, patch 124750-07 for system firmware (version 6.3.10)
To avoid any potential problems, follow these steps:
-
Jumpstart the new nodes with the Solaris10 profile.
-
Log on to the console and upgrade the OBP firmware.
When the upgrade process completes, the system reboots automatically if the upgrade is successful.
-
Log on to the system through the network ( not through the console).
-
Upgrade the ALOM software.
