Connect to WebDAV with Windows Explorer on Windows XP

With a software update, Windows can be used to connect to a DAV share on a TeamForge Lab Management system.

Microsoft recommends you install this Software Update for Web Folders before using Web Folders. You may need this update for Web Folders to work properly.
  1. Launch Windows Explorer.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options and select the View tab. Clear Hide extensions for known file types. This will make file names that begin with a dot (".") to appear properly (for example, your .bashrc file).
  3. Launch Internet Explorer.
  4. On the File menu, click Open.
  5. Enter the URL for your home directory, which will always end in /home/USERNAME. For example:

    https://$external_host/home/user

  6. Select Open as Web Folder.
  7. Enter your username and password when prompted.
  8. If the connection is successful, you will see a new entry added to My Network Places. You can re-connect to this folder in the future by going to My Network Places and selecting this folder.
As of this writing Microsoft does not provide a client that can mount a Web Folder as a drive letter using an encrypted, authenticated connection, but a third-party tool called Webdrive can do this.
